By creating buyer personas marketing professionals are helping themselves to structure their idea of the ideal customer. A clear picture of the ideal customer will laser guide any marketing and communication efforts. It will help a company to enable an effective digital marketing strategy targeted at the right audience.



When selling a product or service it’s important that you really get to know your potential customers. It really depends on the type of business but let’s say that you are running a local gourmet coffee shop that needs to compete with global brands like Starbucks. How do you define what is the right customer to target your marketing efforts on? Would you target the Millennials who appreciate local produce, quality and an authentic experience?

It can be useful to create multiple personas when you sell a product that can serve a very broad audience, like coffee. You may lose sight of any potential customers if you focus on a single specific audience. It’s also good to learn from other companies that may focus their attention on the same or similar audience. What is it that drives my potential customer? What other products and services do they use? Which digital marketing strategies do these companies use?
