Organic Search Engine Optimisation

In my current line of work, as I work for a search engine, this was an important part of our training. Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO in short, is a strategy to increase non-paid (organic) traffic to your website.

Most people use a search engine like Google to find the information they need so it is important that your website rank well for relevant searches. So how does it work? A search engine basically catalogues all available information on the internet by “crawling” or “indexing” and the ranking is determined by how well it matches the search query that was entered by the user (Muller. B. 2020).

In my day to day I would speak to clients and advise on basic SEO strategies like adding specific and relevant keywords. When they would write good content with relevant keywords it could result in a proper ranking. This strategy is very cost effective for small to medium size businesses as good organic performance and ranking obviously cuts funding for paid advertising.

Even business owners that aren’t very tech savvy can benefit from very basic SEO strategies. If you have a good understanding of what people are searching for and the keywords they may use to find your business, you can implement this knowledge by effectively writing content.
